SENEGAL: CTN NUMBERS REQUIRED FROM 1 MARCH 2019 FOR ALL CARGO
Published: 28 February 2019
Local correspondents in Senegal have advised that as from 1 March 2019 all cargoes imported into the country must be identified by an electronic Container Tracking Note (CTN) number also known as a Bordereau Electronique de Suivi des Cargaisons (BESC). The shipper will be responsible for purchasing the CTN and making sure that its number is shown on the bill of lading and on the cargo manifest. If not, then the shipper will face fines and increased costs. It may also be that shipowners will refuse to load cargo that does not have a CTN number. CTNs can be purchased on the Council of Shippers portal.
