PANAMA CANAL: NEW POLLUTION PREVENTION REQUIREMENTS

Witt O’Brien’s CIRCULAR 002-20 advises that with effect from 18 January 2021, if ships are not compliant with the Panama Canal Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (PCSOPEP) requirements, then they can only transit the Canal if they have paid or placed a satisfactory guarantee for the payment of any applicable sanction AND the ship submits an approved PCSOPEP at least 96 hours before arriving in Canal waters.  Members are advised to contact local agents or correspondents for detailed information on the requirements.
