Wellbeing

Seafarer wellbeing, defined as the state of being comfortable, healthy and happy, has been recognised as one of the key issues in shipping – and has been shown to have an impact on both safety and performance

Seafarers work in unique conditions, which regularly challenge their mental, physical and social wellbeing. They also have fewer opportunities to take time away from their work environment than in almost any shore job.

Mental, physical and social wellbeing are all interconnected – this has been known since Roman times but appears easily ignored or forgotten. Our lifestyle choices have a direct effect on wellbeing, for example through healthy eating, appropriate rest and exercise, as well as maintaining a positive mindset. With BSafe we will provide guidance on lifestyle changes and what you can do to help improve your physical and psychological wellbeing. We also provide links to charities and organisations (a number of which are sponsored by Britannia), which support the wellbeing of seafarers across the world.
