Physical Health

Most seafarers spend more time on board than at home. This makes maintaining good health at sea challenging. Here we look at what it takes to lead a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about the common health problems on board

Relatively small changes in lifestyle can have a significant and positive impact on a seafarer’s health. In turn, an increased sense of wellbeing can benefit all aspects of life and help a person to work more efficiently, rest better and prolong their professional career. Many common health issues can be prevented by a healthy diet and hydration, good exercise, appropriate rest and conscious choices with regard to smoking and drinking. Keeping an eye on your own and others’ health can make a difference and it is never too late to start.
